With green pepper. How satanic!
Here’s another take on the recipe from the May 7, 1953 edition of the Reno Evening Gazette:
Mix first 3 ingredients. Form into 6 cakes. Brown in skillet until done. Lay slice of cheese over each cake, continue cooking until cheese begins to melt. Serve in hamburger bun. Makes 6 sandwiches.
From a box sold in East Moline, Illinois.
|(2/3)||1 lb.||ground beef|
|(4/9)||2/3 c.||evaporated milk|
|(1/3)||1/2 c.||finely chopped onion|
|(1/3)||1/2 c.||finely chopped green pepper|
|6||slices American cheese|
|6||buns, split and toasted|
Combine meat, milk, onion, green pepper, and salt and form in patties. Bake in 350 deg. oven about 30 minutes. Place baked patty on bottom half of toasted bun, add slice of tomato and top with cheese slice.
Return to the oven until cheese melts, about 10 minutes. Serve with toasted bun tops.
