A butter-based version.
From a box sold in River Forest, Illinois.
1 cup butter
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/4 cups all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
Colored sugar (optional)
Cream butter, then gradually add granulated sugar, creaming well. Beat in egg and vanilla. Gradually stir in flour mixed with the salt. Press dough through cookie press invarious shapes onto cold ungreased cookie sheets.
Sprinkle with colored sugar if desired.
Bake in preheated oven 375 deg. F. 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on racks.
Makes seven to eight dozen depending on size.
