Cheese and Olive Jell-o Salad

Something scary for Halloween.

It’s like the parts of Dinner is Served 1972’s olive wreath mold that nobody liked, without all the pesky things they enjoyed getting in the way of the unholy trinity: lime gelatin, American cheese and olives.

An early version of cheese and gelatin appeared in the August 25, 1938 edition of the Orange City, Iowa Sioux County Capital:

Lemon Jell-o Cheese Salad
Miss Gertrude Grifhorst

1 pkg. lemon Jell-o
1/2 lb. grated American cheese
1 pint whipped cream (or less)
Salt to taste

Set lemon Jell-o with two cups boiling water, let cool. Add grated cheese, salt and whipped cream before Jell-o is stiff. Mix well. A little mayonnaise may be added if desired; return to refrigerator to set. May also be made in molds.

Lime Jell-o

Make Jell-o as usual.

Add 4 or 5 slices American cheese, diced.

Sliced stuffed green olives and diced sweet pickle.
