I’d like some cheddar cheese with this.
From the box of D.W. from Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Dutch Apple Pie
1 ready-made graham cracker crust
1 large egg yolk, slightly beaten
5 cups sliced cooking apples
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
3 Tbsp. flour
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
Omit lemon juice if apples are very tart.
Preheat oven to 375 deg. Brush crust with egg yolk. Bake on baking sheet until slightly brown, about 5 minutes. Remove crust from oven.
Combine apples, lemon juice, both sugars, flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg and mix well. Spoon into crust.
Topping:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup white sugar
3 Tbsp. flour
1/3 cup butter room temp.
Mix topping with fork or pastry blender until crumbly. Sprinkle topping over pie. Bake on a baking sheet until topping is golden and filling is bubbling, about 50 minutes. Cool on wire rack until cool. Serve at room temp.
Serves 8.
