Peanut Butter Drops

Sweet and salty together, what’s not to like?

You might be wondering what ready-to-eat high protein cereal is. References to it appear as far back as 1959. According to Kellogg’s, Special K, introduced in 1956, was marketed as “the first high-protein breakfast cereal ever offered to consumers.”

“High-protein” is a relative term. Standard Special K has 5 grams of protein per serving. There’s a high-protein version now with 10 grams per serving. Kashi GOLEAN has 13 grams per serving. A Jimmy Dean Delight turkey sausage breakfast sandwich has 18 grams of protein.

So when you come across an older recipe calling for ready-to-eat high protein cereal, read that as Special K or Total.
