From the box of A.D. from Lutz, Florida, by way of Pennsylvania in the 1940s, and originating in Ohio in the 1920s.
Orange Layer Cake
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup milk
1-3/4 cup flour
3 Tbsp. Royal Baking Powder
1 Tbsp. of vanilla
Cream shortening. Add sugar and yolks of eggs. Cream well and add half of milk, half of flour. Mix in flavoring, milk and flour. Bake in layers.
Orange filling and icing.
2 egg whites
1-1/2 cup of confectioners sugar
juice, rind and soft pulp of 1 orange
Whip whites; add sugar, juice, rind and pulp. Spread.
