Date Nut Torte
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. nuts
1 c. boiling water
2 T. butter
1 c. sugar
Place dates in boil, sprinkle on soda and pour on boiling water. Let stand while preparing other ingredients.
Cream shortening. Add sugar and mix well. Add egg; mix well and add date mixture. Add flour and nuts.
Bake in 8×10 greased pan at 375 deg. for 30 minutes. Cool partially. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
